After three years of hard work, our story of AROC’s first 50 years is ready for you to purchase. The result of all the efforts is a magnificent coffee table book, hardback, full colour print, and, almost unbelievably, 520 pages!
The first Alfa Romeos to arrive in New Zealand in the early 1950s were 20-year-old race cars well past their prime but still capable of making their mark on our racetracks. A decade later, Alfa’s production models began to trickle into the country, starting with the 1900 Berlina and the Giulietta TI. Imports revved up considerably with the arrival of the iconic 105 series cars from 1964 and the revolutionary Alfasud range from 1974. While never mainstream cars in New Zealand, Alfa Romeos quickly developed a loyal following among the cognoscenti. Following a series of advertisements in national newspapers in April 1974, a small group of motorheads met in Taupo. There, they formed a club to cater for their Alfa Romeo motoring obsession and share their Alfa-itis affliction (for which there’s no known cure!). From its modest beginnings, the Alfa Romeo Owners Club of New Zealand grew to become New Zealand’s largest and most active single-marque car club. This book, timed to coincide with the club’s fiftieth anniversary, celebrates New Zealand’s Alfa Romeo cars and the Alfisti who drove them
