Braemar Station

Braemar Station is written and published by Duncan & Carol McKenzie, former owners of Braemar station, celebrating 50 years of farming on a Mackenzie Country station. Braemar is a 64,000 acre Station situated on the eastern side of Lake Pukaki in the Mackenzie Country. Duncan and Carol began farming it in 1970 and the book covers 50 years – over 350 pages, including photographs of farming history on Braemar and the Mackenzie. Braemar Station will have a wide appeal to many farming communities around New Zealand. The book covers many historical events that have shaped modern farming life in NZ, including tenure review, lake raising, mustering, floods, snow storms and the myriads of wonderful people from all over New Zealand who worked with Duncan and Carol on Braemar. Written with the help of a meticulously kept farming diary kept by Duncan over fifty years of farming, and a wealth of detailed and captioned photography albums kept by Carol – Braemar Station is an interesting, important and beautiful book, destined to become a classic of NZ history and farming literature.
