So Late in the Day
By Clare Keegan
Review by Jack
Clare Keegan is a master of bringing the ordinary to life, but I think her most exceptional talent is that she does it without any drama or flourish at all. In her work she’s driven the adjective to extinction, instead opting to bounce memories and simple actions against one another to conjure tension and mood. So Late in the Day reads as reverential and unhurried, yet so much is packed into this economical prose.
