My Year of Rest and Relaxation
by Ottessa Moshfegh
Review by Claude
This book is a masterpiece for the end of times, which doubles as the perfect gift for any cynical adolescent. Moshfegh’s writing is raw as rotting flesh, and as sweet as vomit…if you want to feel like you’ve woken up from a coma then this is the book for you. The prose in this novel is like nothing I’ve read before or since and has not left my side, its deeply troubled protagonist haunts me to this day. For a book about trying to deal with trauma through sleep, I feel more wide awake than ever. You might not know you need this book.
