Wingspan is a competitive bird-collection, engine-building game for 1-5 players.
You are bird enthusiasts—researchers, bird watchers, ornithologists, and collectors— seeking to discover and attract the best birds to your aviary. Each bird extends a chain of powerful combinations in one of your habitats (actions). These habitats focus on several key aspects of growth:
Gain food tokens via custom dice in a birdfeeder dice tower
Lay eggs using egg miniatures in a variety of colors
Draw from hundreds of unique bird cards and play them
The winner is the player with the most points accumulated from birds, bonus cards, end-of-round goals, eggs, cached food, and tucked birds.

A great gateway into more complex board games, Wingspan is phenomenal in both style and gameplay. Every card features a unique bird with a beautiful illustration and fun bird fact; you then use these bird cards to build your ‘engine’ and as the game progresses your turns take on more and more importance and complexity. While it’s not a game you can pick up and play in minutes, the reward for learning the ins and outs are beyond worth your time. It’s also one of the few board games that boasts a fully fleshed out 1-player mode for when you can’t get a group together. (I’ll admit, I’ve played this more than the group mode.) Also, there’s a great range of expansions available that add even more to the game. Complexity 3.5-5
