This biography on Thomas Brunner, includes his diary of the epic 18 month journey he undertook in 1846-47 with his Maori guides and companions from Nelson down the Buller River, along the West Coast to South Westland and back to Nelson. Accounts of his other adventures with Charles Heaphy, William Fox and others are also included. Brunner’s English beginnings and his involvement in the NZ Company settlement in Nelson both before and after his wilderness journeys are detailed in this book.
