Humanity has nearly destroyed its world through global warming, but now an even greater evil lurks. The indigenous people of North America are being hunted and harvested for their bone marrow, which carries the key to recovering something the rest of the population has lost: the ability to dream. In this dark world, Frenchie and his companions struggle to survive as they make their way up north to the old lands. For now, survival means staying hidden-but what they don’t know is that one of them holds the secret to defeating the marrow thieves.

\”Miigwans is a true hero; in him Dimaline creates a character of tremendous emotional depth and tenderness, connecting readers with the complexity and compassion of Indigenous people. A dystopian world that is all too real and that has much to say about our own.\” Kirkus Reviews

The Marrow Thieves

This is a good for people who want their kids to read a book with more of a ‘moral' lesson.

In the future, the world is polluted almost beyond salvation, and the general population have lost the ability to dream. The only people who have kept this ability - and their connection to the earth – are indigenous populations. The secret to this ability lies in the very marrow of their bones, and so they are being hunted down like bison to extract the capability to dream and return it to the general populous. We join our protagonist Frenchie, who is on the run with a group of other indigenous children in Canada. A mix of climate horror, colonization, sci-fi and realism. It’s hard to describe and a very unique concept.
