The Last Unicorn

by Peter S. Beagle

Review by Mida

A beautiful modern fairy tale! This book is the perfect comfort read. Lyrical prose, flawed but loveable characters and a very ominous villain, all tucked within a mystical fantasy world that we get only the smallest glimpse into. By the end of the story, I wanted to dive in and explore the overgrown woods, the crumbling castles and the tranquil glen of the Unicorn. The inspiration behind the beloved animated film, this book is magical, melancholic and beautiful. Despite the high stakes, it is a delicate story of inner strength and the power of kindness. This is a book for all ages, perfectly written to provide a little bit of peace. Despite never reading it before, it gave me a wonderful feeling of nostalgia. This is perfect for fans of fairy tales, Studio Ghibli films or anyone wanting to feel cozy and safe. A wonderful story that deserves a place on any fantasy lover’s shelf.
