After a devastating loss at his first ever volleyball tournament, Hinata swears that he’s going to defeat the rival team – especially their snooty setter, Kageyama. But after enrolling at his dream school and finding Kageyama in the same volleyball club, things might not work out the way Hinata hoped!
This series holds such a special place in my heart. After finally finishing all 45 volumes, I can definitely say that this is a manga that deserves the hype. The story of an underdog team reclaiming their status as a powerhouse, Hinata’s journey from being underestimated to getting the recognition he deserves and a funny, heart-warming story of teamwork and friendship; Haikyu!! delivers all of this and so much more. The art style is distinctive and dynamic, portraying a fantastic feel of velocity and action and every match will have you on the edge of your seat – regardless of the stakes.
One of my favourite things in this series is that every team gets to be fleshed out – it doesn’t matter we’ve never seen them before or will again. They all are beautifully developed: no matter who the victor of a match is, you always mourn a little for the losing team.
This is a wild ride from start to finish, ending with a glorious final showdown after Hinata has finished school. If you want a series that you can commit to, this is the perfect one. It’s funny, emotional and intense, all at the same time.
