The Vaster Wilds
by Lauren Groff
Review by Alex P
This book is magic, a truly transportive novel. It is as beautiful as it is brutal, pulling no punches while simultaneously refusing to delve into exploitative territory. Reading it feels like birdsong and hunger, as our nameless heroine races through a bitter life. The Vaster Wilds is beloved for a reason, a feral Jane Eyre for a modern audience. I can’t recommend it enough, the best book I read this year.
