Taniwha are water spirits from Māori mythology that often take the form of serpent-like creatures. They range from big to small and good to bad, some can shapeshift and others are experts at hiding. They’re cheeky and cunning and play a huge part in Māori pūrākau. Gavin Bishop returns with his newest work, Taniwha, to tell us all about them and their roles in te ao Māori.
