A book unlike any other I’ve ever read, a true delight and dare I say one we’ll be talking about for a long time. Paige Lewis’ poetry roots shine in this strange and mythic saga complete with a mission from God, an unlikely hero and even a talking whale! The story unfolds in a series of a short, sharp chapters, moving back and forth between two central POVs, both of which are seeking to take down the leader of the ‘Bad Guys’, one by choice, the other at God’s behest. While strange and magical powers abound, the story never loses sight of its two protagonists’ humanity. Their inner journeys are central to the story’s heart. I loved how the narrator is a character in their own right, often poking fun at the reader, and guiding the story with a witty and deft hand. While the book takes inspiration from the classic hero’s journey and several myths and legends, I promise you’ve never read a book like this before and, until Paige gifts us another, I doubt you’ll find its likeness anywhere else.
