In Memoriam
by Alice Winn
Review by Ray
Gorgeous and brutal, deeply romantic and harrowing in the same breath, this book gripped me from the beginning and is one I’ll think about for many years to come. The writing is stunning and the glimmers of hope Winn offers in the midst of the unfathomable cruelty of war feel hard-won, realistic and carefully held. A mesmerising novel. (Don’t read it on the bus unless you don’t mind weeping in public.)
