The Rachel Incident
by Caroline O’Donoghue
Review by Ray
I inhaled this delightful, smart, familiar novel about the intensity of early adulthood friendships and relationships, set against the background of recession, abortion reform and changing attitudes to LGBT+ communities in 2009/10 Ireland. These charming, funny, sometimes unhinged characters are beautifully captured, and the heavy themes are present and fully explored but never over-bearing. This is a sharp, satisfying and big-hearted read.
