Why We Are Here
by Briohny Doyle
Review by Ray
This novel follows a recently bereaved woman through a few years of ‘aftermath’ as she moves back to the city she grew up in. Set in a fictional city in a very real and current Australia as it grapples with the pandemic, this novel explores grief, loneliness, home, place and belonging from both personal and political perspectives. Hilarious, wise, sometimes surreal, deeply emotional, this is some of the best writing about loss I’ve ever read. Plus, there is a really, really good dog. Highly recommend.
