This is the most daring and sophisticated romance I’ve ever read! With all the hallmarks of good romance – chance encounters, an island holiday, a will they-won’t they story – this could fall into a cliche but with Emezi’s careful and incredible writing, this story becomes so much more than that. It’s a careful meditation on grief and love and living after tragedy, and the prose is so lush, sexy, gorgeous and imaginative. I can’t recommend it enough.
