The Justice Of Kings
by Richard Swan
Review by Josh
An absolutely remarkable debut novel from Richard Swan. We follow Konrad Vonvalt, a King’s Justice – which is a kind of fantasy lawyer/detective/judge. From the first page I knew this book would be something special. With its quick and effective prose, it draws you quickly into the Empire of the Wolf and takes you under the surface of its cohesive facade. It takes on big ideas: the fall of empire, the importance of law, the fanaticism of religion, and handles them with grace and style. Easily my top book of 2023 and it won’t be easily overthrown… except by maybe the sequel, Tyranny of Faith.
