Free is a heartfelt and genuine memoir written from the perspective of a young girl growing up alongside the rapidly changing nation she adores. Ypi’s unique style of writing makes for an entertaining read, that conveys the power of indoctrination in an Albania dominated by Marxism. As the shroud of childlike innocence evaporates before her eyes, she realises the truth behind the system that nurtured her. Free is a unique critique of the modern ideologies that define our politics, written from the unique and often unheard voice of Eastern Europeans.
