Fake Dates and Mooncakes

A charming gay love story that plays on a few timeless romance tropes. It tells the story of a poor high schooler working at his family’s down-on-it’s-luck restaurant, who meets a handsome rich kid on a delivery run. This book is wholesome and cosy, it has tough subjects (like losing a parent and with them your ties to your culture), but also shows the joy of discovering parts of your heritage you never knew existed. I also learned a lot about the complex world and flavours of Mooncakes! The story and writing are very reminiscent of Casey McQuiston, and is perfect for fans of their books Red, White and Royal Blue, I Kissed Shara Wheeler and One Last Stop.
