Book Review: COUP

Board game review: Coup

Review by Mida

Coup is a deception game built off lies, where there are two ways to move forward – play it safe and slow, or lie and hope the others don’t call your bluff. Each player starts off with two cards – or lives – and these cards have different abilities which allow the player to do different things. But here’s the thing: you can lie about what cards you have. You can say you have two completely different cards, or claim four different powers when you only have two. If you get caught for lying, you lose a card and can risk losing all your lives if you aren’t careful. But if you were telling the truth, the player who called you out loses a card.

The goal is to be the last one standing and the longer you play, the more the tensions will rise. Great to play with people who aren’t afraid to get a little chaotic or competitive.
