About the event

Scorpio Books and Grant Hodgson invite you to a special lunchtime author talk on Rangatiratanga and Gentlemanship: A conversation in 1825. Morrin Rout, Associate Professor Michael Grimshaw and the author will be discussing Hodgson’s book, an examination of a rare piece of evidence illustrating the relationship between rangatira and missionaries at a crucial time in 1825. You are welcome to bring your own lunch!

“From the great sedimentary layers of historical documents on New Zealand’s colonisation, Hodgson has extracted a nugget that reveals so much about the nature of interactions between Māori and Pākehā in the earliest stages of settlement. With great insight, this short work illuminates the significance of this period of contact.” Professor Paul Moon ONZM, historian.
