Where Sleeping Girls Lie
By Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé
Review by Kazia
This sinister, slow burn mystery set in a prestigious boarding school absolutely absorbed me. A fantastic example of dark academia done well, Àbíké-Íyímídé’s writing lent this book the perfect amount of atmospheric pull and suspense. What kept me gripped, however, was less the mystery itself and more a desire to stay with the characters a little longer. I loved the friendships and support systems that formed in this book and the determined resistance the characters showed each in their own ways. A powerful commentary on topics that most schools would prefer to sweep under the rug, with students who refuse to let that happen. Another brilliant work of fiction after the author’s debut novel Ace of Spades.
