Six Scorched Roses

I was charmed as hell by this vampiric Romantasy which manages to pack so much intrigue, romance and magic into such a tiny book. The main character – antisocial but scientificially brilliant Lilith who is constantly on the verge of death – was wonderfully refreshing. So was her romance with Vale, a vampire who used to be a general before retreating into isolation near her tiny town. They fall in love through a shared passion for science while trying to make a cure for the plague threatening to destroy Lilith’s town, and it was lovely watching them gradually recognize things in each other that everyone else dismisses, like how Lilith’s analytical nature is percieved as her not caring, when it’s actually the exact opposite. In turn, she brings out a side of Vale that he thought long-dead (no vampire pun intended), and both of them grow and blossom through their romance that Lilith thinks is doomed.
Spoilers: it’s not doomed. They get their happy ending, even if they have to go through violent attacks, plagues, deals with asshole gods, and a little bit of death to get there.
