Ranger’s Apprentice
By John Flanagan
Review by Mida
When Will, a young orphan in Castle Redmont’s ward, is rejected the chance to train as a knight, he despairs that all that awaits him is a life of toil in the surrounding farmland. However, after being selected by the local Ranger, Halt, to learn with him, Will realises his life will be anything but!
This series is great fun. Full of action, drama, and surprising depth, we follow Will as he develops from a boy who THINKS he knows everything to a competent young man. An eager learner, he is a great focal character, as his thirst for knowledge infects the reader, leaving you constantly wanting more.
Perfect for all ages, it’s full of mysteries, delightful characters and some surprisingly intense moments of action. The first 4 books are just fantastic, but if you want a series worth committing to, this is one; even the spin-off series, inspired by Vikings, is a riveting read.
Perfect for fans of Tamora Pierce.
