Love Bullet

Once again, I pick up a manga with what sounds like a goofy premise only to get gobsmacked by a poignant, beautiful story about acceptance, grief and belonging.
Love Bullet takes place in a world much like ours, only cupids exist. Invisible to mortals, these servants of the Goddess of Love are in charge with making people fall in love. Only, instead of the traditional Bow-and-Arrow combo, these cupids utilize more modern weapons of war – from small handheld pistols to machine guns, grenades and drones.
This WHOLE PREMISE is just a way to lure you in. I was expecting a goofy slice-of-life where our main crew of cupids squabble over who should be with who and then move on to the next target. While it contains that – in spades! – what really stuck with me is the focus this series has on the less uplifting sides of romance. While traditional boy-meets-girl romance has a place here, so do stories of queer heartache, the grief of losing a loved one and the pain of loving someone you know won’t love you back. I found it to be a strangely refreshing examination of romance as a genre.
Perfect for fans of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun or other manga that start off funny but contain a surprising amount of depth.
