This action-packed fantasy is guaranteed to delight fans of the author’s beloved Five Realms series. In the land of Albion (a pseudo England) magickal children from six Guilds – Fire, Iron, Feather, Claw, Bone and Leaf – compete every year for the chance to rule the land. Jed, an orphaned farm labourer, views this illustrious company as a world apart from his own – until he discovers he holds the power of Leaf magick. This struggling Guild will need a powerful competitor to face down the power – and corruption – of Fire and Iron, but Jed isn’t at all sure he’s the boy for the job! Larwood places his loveable underdog into a world of elemental magick, resulting in a playful mash-up of the Last Airbender and traditional English folklore. Real life historical figures like Samuel Johnson and Dick Turpin also make guest appearances in this rollicking, supernatural adventure.
