I had to reread this to truly appreciate the effort that was put in. It subverted all of my expectations in new and unique ways and introduced one of my favourite literary universes of all time. An enticing and strange blend of traditional science fiction and religion with lesbian space mechs thrown in for good measure! Misery Nomaki is a convoluted and morally ambiguous anti-hero with an extremely introspective and philosophical mental narrative. I immediately fell in love with this book! Good writing and great characters.
