Detective Gordon, a tired, wise old toad who solves the mysteries of the forest, is feeling slightly overwhelmed. Carrying his workload alone, he is very much in need of an assistant, someone younger who’s fit and more physically able. He is faced with his first case; someone has been stealing nuts in the forest.

In the midst of solving the crime he may just have found the perfect assistant, someone sharp, fast and keen. Together, they can solve important crimes- with of course, many cups of tea and cake breaks in between.

This is a lovely gentle story filled with character, humour and some pearls of wisdom. Perfect for ages 5 and up, its a great first chapter book to read to children or for them to read alone. This book is full of beautiful watercolour illustrations and is the first in a series of four books, so if you like this then be sure to check out the second book, A Complicated Case.
