This captivating romantasy follows a former slave who flees the country to train her magic powers so she can return and free her fellow slaves, only to fall for her trainer and get dragged into a world of politics, war and bloodshed. The plot twists had my jaw on the floor and the sweet romance had me swooning, especially when circumstance turns them from sweet to potentially tragic.
