The Reckoners trilogy takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where the arrival of superheroes – or Epics, as they are called – has led to the near destruction of our civilisation. In contrast to the conventional depiction of superheroes, the Epics are cruel, selfish, and tyrannical. It is in the midst of this dark reality that we meet our protagonist who has built his life around ending the rule of Steelheart, the Epic who has taken over the remains of his city. Easy to read and fast paced, this novel has all the excitement and tension of an action movie, but in book form. It is a great start to a series that in true Sanderson fashion is full of twists, mystery, and epic revelations.
