Lyrical, haunting, and contemplative, ‘In the dream House’ highlights Carmen Maria Machado’s own experiences of being in an abusive same-sex relationship. Blending her reality with different forms of media, both factual and fictional, Machado constructs a very important narrative about telling the stories which are not told and how this silence on these topics is so loud and so detrimental. Mesmerising and intense, this memoir is an honest depiction of trauma, heartbreak, healing, and love. Carmen Maria Machado, you have my heart; nothing I could say would do justice to this masterpiece.
