I do not read romance (much). But this series has absolutely turned into a guilty pleasure of mine. A delightfully goofy, tropey romantic comedy, it wormed its way into my heart before I even realised.
Class president Otogi prides herself on appearing perfect; perfect grades, perfect appearance, a friendly girl who captures the hearts of everyone who meets her. But on the inside, she’s as down-to-earth as the rest of us; snarky and sarcastic with a bit of a temper. So, when she slips up one day, with the school’s other paragon of perfection as a witness, she succumbs to despair and decides her school life is over- only, Toki Ninomae has kept the incident to himself.
This series knows exactly what it is doing. Fall In Love, You False Angels takes every shojo manga trope and throws it at you. Somehow, it manages to keep the story from being too overwhelming! The result is a delightfully over-the-top rom-com with two egotistical leads quarrelling and trying to maintain their reputations while being in on each other’s secret, steadily chipping away at their perfect marble exteriors to find the vein of gold within. It’s dramatic, it’s silly, but dang if it isn’t a whole lot of fun.
